Progress continues on Sapphire Springs Inc.’s advanced Arctic char aquaculture facility in Rockwood, Manitoba. This $190-million project is set to produce 5,000 metric tonnes of Arctic char annually by 2027, leveraging cutting-edge recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) technology to promote sustainable seafood production.
M Richard and Associates Ltd. (MRA) conducted a comprehensive Economic Impact Study to support Sapphire Springs’ development. The study analyzed market trends and assessed the project’s economic contributions, including job creation, increased business activity, and tax revenues. These insights were instrumental in securing $20 million in provincial funding, emphasizing the facility’s potential for regional and economic growth.
Sapphire Springs represents a forward-looking approach to aquaculture, aligning environmental stewardship with economic opportunity. As the facility moves toward full operation, it promises to play a key role in advancing Manitoba’s position in the growing Arctic char industry.
